God's invitation.

[title]

I (Garry) was in Toronto, standing at the corner of Younge & Dundas, listening to the 'corner preachers' from various religions. I mean, various! This might be what you think of, when you hear the word, 'prophet.' Some crazy guy, yelling, angrily, about some imminent doom.

God did use prophets to get His word out, in bygone eras. Many of their writings turned into books in the Bible.  But, what is the point of reading books from the Old Testament, and, especially, from a prophet? 3000 years ago? What could we possibly learn? What could be relevant?

Although some of the images we carry around in our minds about prophets might be partially correct, we have most likely skewed reality, and definitely run the risk of missing what God was saying to them, and what God wants to say to us now, about His character, His will, and life.

Summer, 2017, we are going to listen for God's voice, through the prophet Joel, starting Sunday, June 25th. Almost smack dab in the middle of this short little book, are these words, repeated a dozen times in the Old Testament, present again here in the book of Joel, as an embedded clue:

"The Lord is gracious and compassionate. Slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love."

Wow! Let's find out more, as we come together and listen to God's invitation.
